Behind Closed Doors...

Once again, Maryam of My Marrakesh has more thought provoking news:

"... I have just spent some time at a house where the kitty has been relegated to the outside porch. Now he does have a heated bed and plenty of good food. But am worried...worried. What do you think?"

I don't know WHAT is going on over there in Marrakesh and I can't speak for other cats, but as far as I'm concerned, this would not fly with me at all. First of all, anything that's "off limits" means "no limits" to me and Pumpy. (And I can speak for Pumpy here because he doesn't mind.) If THOSE TWO close any door to any room in this house then Pumpy and I simply scratch at it until we make them open it. And they DO open it. We must have free access to all areas of the house even though we spend most of our time in the lounge, on the sofa. In the afternoons we like to look out of the window.

I can't imagine being relegated to a porch... although... I must tell you that the heated bed sounds very nice and I might have to talk to YOU KNOW WHO about getting me and Pumpy one of those.

Pearl, I agree with you completely. If my Mommie even closes the bathroom door, I am scratchin' and scratchin' to get in. If that doesn't work, then I reach my paws under the door, and start feeling all around the ground for her, as far as my arms can reach.

I would not mind visiting the porch, but I would not LIVE on a porch. Next time I am making travel arrangements, remind me never to go to Marrakesh...

Thanks for reporting this for us!

I and lulu will totally agree we do not like to sleep outside but in Morrocco weather condition , lulu does like to walk around at night very interesting thing happen too. The other day lulu came back with presents for me She was very proud ,and was too but not too interested in the presy. Charly really like to be on his wall ,we baught a little house to have a rest during his patrolling. Every morning he is coming out of the house and look very sleepy but his tomy his telling him to come inside and have breakfast!

It seems to be a univseral appeal for attention. Recently, my mistress and master had company, as they do often, and they put them up in my room! as they do often. Some people realize that it is MY room, and we sleep together quite well (see, I am very generous to share my bed), but others think they can close the door. On me! Well, I scratched and scratched and scratched but the two young ones in my room didn't budge. Only my mistress, who got up and had Cheerios. Well whoop'd dee dooh. After petting me a few times she went back to bed. Ah, I just scratched again.

Sleep on a porch. I might give it a try. If they didn't close the back door on me.

Well, being on a heated porch is better than not being inside at all. But I agree with you. No doors are allowed to be closed in MY house!

I tried to enforce that rule, George, but these beings just insist on keeping the closet doors shut! Sometimes I can reach something with my toes and pull part of it under the door, though.

Pearl, I agree with you. Esepcially if the cat is confined to the porch - that's not enough room for a cat! Or are they an outdoor cat with access to the porch? It's not really clear.

Hi Pearl. I just popped over to assure myself that the rumors of YOU having step children, let alone grandchildren, are untrue.
We don't want word of that getting around.

As for doors, our closets have louvered doors and I've learned if I whack at them enough I can usually bump them open. If not, the noise from all the whacking eventually brings the hand maiden who will open them for me.

Now just to clarify, this was a porch in Washington DC, not Marrakech. And this cat used to be indoors but now has been put permanently on the porch. Now the porch is very lovely, with plants and everything else and a very nice view. But I am sad that this kitty is no longer allowed inside. And not enough petting either, as far as I am concerned.
