A blog about the English life of an American kitty who lives with one human woman and one indentured servant man and sometimes two young boys.

Keeping an eye on things
Sometimes I like to sit behind the curtain and hide from the madness the of humans who live here. I keep my eye on things in case anything happens that I should know about. I love sitting in the window behind the curtain because I can keep tabs on the birds and cars and people on the outside and make sure that nothing unsavory is going on in the lounge.
Case in point. Notice that Pumpy is getting a big cuddle. When this happens I have to pop my head out and give a grunt of protest and then join him on a lap or a shoulder. Pumpy always wants to sit on the humans lap(s) and I just have to put the kabosh on that lest he gets more cuddles than I. That would be unacceptable.

Getting Busy
Here is a little project that Pumpy and I have been working on. I'm very excited about it.
The woman that I live with has some plans for her own projects. She's been talking about removing wallpaper and painting walls. She also has plans of removing the carpet from the livingroom. The man who lives here has been resistent to this idea but I think yesterday she finally wore him down.
I'm not thrilled that she's going to start these projects because it will mean great disruption for Pumpy and me. She'll have to move furniture and there will be ladders and other assorted equipment in the rooms. I don't know why she doesn't just busy herself with scratching and napping. It's really so much more relaxing.

Shopping Day
I drew this yesterday while the humans were away visitng Grandma Pat. Isn't it terrific?
Today those two went to the shopping centre and came home with a photo frame and some eye drops. That seemed kind of silly to me and so it harkens back to my drawing.
I would never bother with shopping centres. They are full of strange people and I can tell you right now that I do not like strange people. I usually have to retreat to the upstairs bedroom and sit under the bed whenever visitors come to the house. Occasionally I will come come downstairs and sit in the lounge with visitors but only after a very long time has passed and I'm sure that nothing untoward is going to happen.
A new development today... I saw the sun came out at about 2:30 this afternoon. I'm really looking forward to the sun coming out more often so that I can lay in sun spots on the carpet.

Boxing Day
The humans ate a big dinner yesterday and they gave me and Pumpy a piece of chicken. Pumpy eats way more than I do and he came to my plate and took some chicken off it so the woman had to give me more chicken. MMMMM.
Early this morning I heard Pumpy making some noise in the kitchen and when he came into the lounge he had the smell of ham on his breath. He brought me a parsnip (see above photo.)
Then the human woman came downstairs and I heard her say, "who got into the garbage!? Who did this?!" Ha! Like we would ever tell.
She didn't do anything, though. She still gave us our stinky goodness.
Those two are going to visit Grandma Pat today and so Pumpy and I have the whole house to ourselves. We need to think about how we want to utilize this time. Hmmmm. First I need to take a nap.
What will you do for Boxing Day?

Merry Christmas Everyone
This is Christmas Day in Surrey. The humans went out for walkies this morning and they came back with these photos of Waverly Abbey. Pumpy and I don't do walkies AT ALL.
Here's a picture of me after we opened gifts this morning. I've been promised a piece of chicken today and so I'm resting up for later on when I have to walk all the way out into the kitchen to eat.

Christmas Dad Day
Yesterday was Christmas Dad Day here at our house. This special day is when the Christmas Bunny rises from the floorboards and delivers pressies from the dad to his boys. Well... that's what he told me anyway. It was mayhem. Pumpy and I had to go upstairs and sleep on the bed until those two boys settled down.
The human woman baked cookies and cooked a big dinner last night. I put on my tiarra thinking that I would be invited to dine with them but they didn't give me a morsel.
Oh well... Christmas Day is tomorrow. Maybe then?

About Some Boys...
On certain days of the week two boys come and stay here. They seem to be nice enough but they make us nervous. One of the boys made this video. I don't know what it means. It would have been better if he had filmed me and Pumpy.

Baubles and a Fake Tree
Look what the humans did. They took this "tree" out of the closet and set it up in the lounge. Now... I really like trees and plants and stuff. Pumpy and I have always been indoor cats but sometimes the humans leave the back door open and we step out onto the patio and then we chew on some of the plants back there. It's really nice. Later we usually deposit the chewed plants (in a different form) on an antique, wool rug that she has.
But back to this "tree". It's not real. I've tested it out a couple of times. I somehow manage to jump up onto that white counter and then I've tried chewing on those branches and they have no taste what-so-ever. The little balls are nice but I'm only interested in them if I can knock the whole tree off that white counter.

More on food
I'm getting worried. The humans keep talking about not letting me eat off their plates. Last night they had jacket potatoes with TUNA and Pumpy and I were only trying to have a nibble and they said "NO" to us and then they said, "Get down now... no no no... get down." So we sat in front of them and we bore holes into them with our lazer eyes but they still didn't let us lick their plates. And then the woman put a few bits of tuna on our plates in the kitchen but it wasn't very much. I was pretty hissed off but I didn't say anything.
This picture is of me when after I've had my stinky goodness. I know I look like I've got a weight problem but really I just have lovely curves to my figure. Don't you think?

Mornings
Man... this morning the human woman got up really early. Like -- 4:30 or something. And Pumpy and I were fast asleep on the sofa and she turned on the TV and said something like, "Will you make room for me? Will you? Can you scooch over? Can you? Can you?" And then she just moved us onto a cold spot on the sofa. We were like... No Way Man. And we got up and scratched hard on our sisal cat rug. Then we came back to the sofa and sat next to her head and licked our lips a lot until she let us get under the duvet and she stroked us until we went back to sleep.
We're supposed to eat our Stinky Goodness at 7:00 every morning. (Stinky Goodness is catosphere talk for scrummy tinned food.) Anyway, the humans slept until 8:30 this morning. I couldn't believe it. Even though I went into the lounge several times to see if the human woman would get up, she just slept and slept. So finally I had to holler at her and she woke up and then she had to holler up the stairs to my man servant to hurry and wake up. And then it was rush, rush, rush and I was so afraid that they would forget our breakfast and I had to howl several times while the woman made her coffee so that she would remember our breakfast. But I do this every morning just in case she forgets.
My man servant always has special cereal in the mornings and he gives me the milk afterwards. But sometimes he forgets and so I have to sit right in front of him and look hard at him while he eats his cereal so he remembers to give me the cereal milk. This morning I overheard him say, "should I give her the milk?" And I was like -- WHAT? What do you mean "should I give her the milk?" Of course you should give me the milk. What's the problem?
The woman said yes and so he gave me the ceral milk and I was so happy.

My Friend YoYo
I forgot to mention that my friend, YoYo, who is pictured here with Tucker, who is HER best friend, is going to the V-E-T-S today to get her tooth pulled. Oh I do feel for her. And I worry about her because she has that pushed in funny kind of nose that makes it hard for her to breathe. Good luck YoYo. Let us know how the procedure went.
The Cold
Generally, the English life is very satisfying to me. However, this house that the humans live in is C-O-L-D. I'm constantly looking for heat sources. There's a lovely heat source attached to the wall near the back of the sofa, and it heats up twice a day. Whenever I hear it click, I saunter over to the sofa (I never run - that would be so silly) and I lay down on the back of the sofa and rest my head on top of this white heat source. It's LOVELY. I close my eyes and drift off into a dream of hot sun and birds in the garden. Far away I can hear the human woman saying things like, "look at her. Isn't she cute? " or "Pearl... Pearl... can I give you a kiss? Pearl?" It's so annoying. I ignore her.
The above photo is of me with my other heat source. It's a small white thing that the human woman turns on whenever she's in the lounge. I have to sit on the end of the sofa and hang my head over the edge in order to get any heat what-so-ever and wish the humans would do something to make it more comfortable for me. I'm sure they could if they really tried.
The human woman is always cold too. She runs around the house with her big, fuzzy robe and slippers and says, "I'm so cold! I'm so cold!" And she has this OTHER heat source that she carries around with her. It's wonderful. It's small and when she puts it on the floor it blasts hot air right out of the front. I always lay down right in front of it and sometimes I lose myself completely and I roll over on my back. I normally don't expose my underside because the humans like to tickle my belly and I hate that.
Anyway... I don't know why that human woman complains all the time. She should just turn that wonderful blasting heat source on and lay down on her back in front of it and sleep -- like I do.
Last night she tried to get me to go to bed with her because she was cold. She took me upstairs and (let me tell you -- it's cold up there) and she put me in the bed with her and then she stuck her cold hands on my back. Then she tried to get the man who lives with us to get in bed to warm up her feet but he said "no way". He put some hot water in this red thingy and gave it to her but by then I was really annoyed by the two of them and so I left and went back downstairs to sleep with Pumpkin. I can bury my whole face in Pumpy's belly and keep my nose warm. Plus sometimes Pumpy cleans me with his tongue. Even the humans won't do that for me.

A little about Pumpkin
Some of you might be wondering about my brother, Pumpkin. This is him. Notice that he has to have his head held up with the human's hand in order to get his picture taken. This is because he sleeps all the time and he doesn't really understand requests made by the human woman. Pumpkin doesn't "do" blogs because, really, he can't be bothered. If Pumpy had a blog it would read like this:
Me Eat.
Me Sleep.
Me clean myself until the hair comes off my belly.
Me clean Pearl until she bites me.
Me want cuddle so me step all over humans to get cuddle.
Me get cuddle.
Me sleep.
Pumpkin - aka Pumpy -- also has ears that don't stand up properly. They always seem to be flat -- like Yoda ears. I think this is strange but the human woman and the man think it's endearing.
Pumpy always has a far-away look in his eyes and that's because, well, he's far away. The expression, "the lights are on but nobody's home" is very applicable to him. Sometimes he stands on the dining room table and cries for no apparent reason. Then the human woman calls out his name and he jumps down and runs to her as though he's just remembered who he is and where he's at.
Enough about Pumpkin for now. I've got to go take my morning nap and he's getting the best spot on the duvet!!

A little about ME
My name is Pearl C. Pritchard and I used to live in New York City where, I've been told, I was found in a parking lot somewhere on the upper west side. I actually believe that I am a Princess who was hidden away for safe keeping and have been adopted by these humans who keep me in their house -- away from all the other people who would surely want to steal me and keep me for their very own. Anyhoo... I have a brother named Pumpkin and one fine day my human woman packed us into a box and put us on a plane and we landed in England and let me tell you... that was NOT a nice experience. My brother and I were very upset indeed. We were so traumatized that we immediately weed on the sofa cushion and then took up residence in the kitchen cupboard.
Eventually my human woman coaxed us out of the cupboard and we all got into a nice soft bed and snuggled up to her and began to purr and treddle upon her pillow. And then we realized that there was this other human living in the house. HIM. We vaguely remembered him from visits that he made to our house in NYC but boy were we shocked when we realized that he was now living with us.
But he's turned out to be a pretty good indentured servent. He allows us to sleep in his bed -- between him and my human woman. He also feeds us sometimes when my human woman is too stressed from a hard day of work. And best of all, he lets me have the remainder of his milk from his morning bowl of cereal. MMMMM. More on this later.
So that's that's it for now. That's my first shot at blogging in the catosphere blogoshere. I hope you enjoy reading my posts.
Meow.
