Splitting hairs

I've mentioned this before but Pumpy has licked all the furs off of his belly. He is what they call "obsessed" with licking his belly hair. I find this disturbing and would like him stop but as you know, if he doesn't really want to stop, he cannot do so. I can only be here for him if he needs me.

Pearl, I used to have lots of bald spots from overgrooming. It all started when Harley joined our family!

I did that too, but Ducky joining the family didn't make me stop.

I did it too for years, then suddenly stopped about 18 months ago.

Brighton is a belly licker too...my vet said for him, it might be due to bladder pain, but in many cats it's like people biting their nails or twirling their hair. If he ever licks sores on the skin, because their tongues are so rough it doesn't take much licking to do that, then you could try him on anxiety meds for a while to see if you could break the cycle...
